Doyle "Texas Dolly" Brunson is probably the most famous poker player in the world. With 10 World Series Of Poker bracelets he holds the number one position together with Johnny Chan in won WSOP bracelets. Part of his long list of wins and experience playing poker he is mostly know for the amazing poker book Super System. This is the godfather of all poker books and a must read for every poker fanatic.
Doyle Brunson was born 1933 in Longworth, Texas. He was married in 1962 with Louise and they have 3 children, Pam Cheryl and Todd, together. Todd has studied, his legend of father and today he masters poker as a professional as well. With his $2500 Limit Omaha Hi/Lo win in 2005
Todd and his father now has become legends in the sense both father and son has won a WSOP bracelets. They had one more daughter, Doyla, to but she tragically passed away with a heart problem in her sleep only 19 years old. Doyle was before his poker career one very successful basketball player but a knee injury stopped this way of life for him and poker came through.
He went to Hardin-Simmons University and from here he was placed at top 5 basketball players in the state of Texas. The accident of his knee happened at his work when he was moving some materials. Several tons of equipment lost its balance and he acted instinctively and tried to hold it back. He broke his knee in two places and this was the end of his successful basketball career. Although he played poker already during his basketball career it wasn’t until after the accident he started to attend this more seriously.
After the accident with his knee he went through college and took a masters degree in Administrative Education. This didn't stop his poker career since he noticed that he was successful in the game and shortly after he finished school his hunger after poker was growing. He found and joined Johnny Moss and Amarillo Slim and together they searched for poker games all over America.
Doyle’s nickname "Texas Dolly" comes from a misreading by Jimmy Snyder and since then it has followed him. Dolly could easily be connected with Doyle and Texas well he is from there so it had a natural feel.
Texas Dolly is a poker legend in many fields. He is in the lead together with Johnny Chan in having most World Series Of Poker bracelets. They have 10 each. He was also the first to win a $1,000,000 poker tournament.

Doyle’s favourite game is Texas Holdem and it is only in the high stakes games you will find him. With a minimum bets of $4000/$8000 the money he wins/looses could easily become over $50,000 a hand. Doyle recently started his own online poker room, Doyle’s Room, together with Mike "The Mad Genius Of Poker" and Barry "The Robin Hood Of Poker" Greenstein.
Mr Brunson has the privileged of having 2 poker hands named after him, 10-2 of suit and A-Q of suit. He has written of the most talked about and talented poker books of all time and every serious professional poker today has read "Super System" several times. Doyle is also the author of another great book Poker Wisdom of a Champion, which was first published in 1976 as According to Doyle. |
