Poker: The Art of Bluffing

The main reason why players who bluff win the hand is because the other players are scared of losing their chips and fold. These players usually think that the bluffing player has a fantastic hand. How does the bluff achieve this? Well, traditionally, when players have hands that have a good chance at winning the pot, they bet a larger amount of chips than they usually would. When a player bluffs, he does not have a good hand, but still bets a very large number of chips to fool the opponent. It sounds easy enough, but the reason why most bluffs fail is because another player in the game picks up on the bluff and exploits it.
